Reading in year 4
This week, our focus has been on reading and making sure the children are really confident using the 5 skills represented by our school reading characters. We have read a range of texts and the children have enjoyed explaining, summarising and predicting as well as retrieving information and vocabulary.
They have all been issued with a new reading log which will be used to record all of their home reading. They have also been introduced to the Autumn term reading challenge which will keep them busy until Christmas. The details of the reading challenge have been added to the year 4 padlet page for your information. So from now until the end of term we would like the children to take up the different choices. The idea behind this is to broaden the choice of books that the children read and includes a variety of fiction, non-fiction and poetry challenges.
Encouraging the children to read regularly at home is something we are proud of at Loughton School and it will help to widen the children’s vocabulary, provide them with greater knowledge and most of all develop a love of books.
Please make sure the children bring in their orange reading record book to school each day. We are encouraging them to complete their record each time they read with a very short comment. Check out the pictures below to see examples.
HAPPY READING EVERYONE !
