Year 4 Science
Over the past few weeks, the children in year 4 have been learning about the changing state of materials.
They started off the topic by watching an experiment using oil, water and salt and were amazed at the results. They have discovered the differences between solids, liquids and gases and how materials can change from one to the other. They saw that water exists in all 3 different states: solid ice, liquid water and as a gas in the form of water vapour. They studied the water cycle and learnt about evaporation, condensation and precipitation. One of the experiments that the children observed was how solids change into liquids by the process of melting. They saw that chocolate melts when heated and they discussed that the liquid chocolate could be returned to solid by cooling it down in the fridge. They watched an ice cube melting and also the solid wax in a tealight melted as it burned.
Thank you to Mrs Ruggles and Miss Coppins who have provided us with lab coats and goggles so that our scientist of the day can play their part!
