Year 5 have started the summer term with a brand-new book - The Peculiars by Kieran Larwood - as inspiration for our next English writing unit. This book is set in the East end of London in the 1800s and follows a band of misfits as they work in a side show by night and solve mysteries by day. To kick off the unit, the children enjoyed watching the film The Greatest Showman, which was very much enjoyed by all. We have also enjoyed the beginning of the book and the style in which it is written, meeting the characters and learning about the setting. This has already helped us to write excellent sentences in our writing lessons, and we look forward to seeing what comes next.
