Take One Book Week
Welcome to Year 4!
We have had a wonderful week with our new classes this week. Across the year group we have been getting to know each other, finding out about ambitions and interests, siblings and pets, working in teams and independently on activities based on our class books.
HB5 have been looking at ‘Oh! The Places You will Go!’ by Dr Seuss. They have been looking at artwork and language: making their own optical illusions; making up their own onomatopoeic words like Dr Seuss and creating stained glass hot air balloons carrying their ambitions into the future.
HB6 have been following the adventure of the boy and the penguin in ‘Lost and Found’ by Oliver Jeffers. They have been exploring the Antarctic learning about the least populated continent on Earth, following the Race to the Pole in 1911 and making their own penguin!
HB7 have been focused on ‘Ocean Meets the Sky’ by the Fan Brothers. They have been busy designing and making their own boats and looking at what their rooms say about them.
HB8 have been reading and exploring friendship in ‘On Sudden Hill’ by Laura Sarah and Benji Davies. They have been talking about what makes and good friend, how we can include everyone, how to cope with disappointment and being brave. In teams they have been working towards building some amazing vehicles and buildings out of cardboard boxes – just like the children in the book.
Have a look at the photos below to see what your child has been creating this week.
This week, we have also been sharing our thoughts about our school community in our assemblies. This morning, we all joined in with a live assembly from a school in Lincolnshire where the children shared their thoughts about community and how we can make everyone feel safe and welcome in our school.
