India

This week, in Year four, we have been delving deeper into all things Indian. The children have been captivated by our book The Girl Who Stole An Elephant (Nizrana Farook), which is an adventure story of cunning and betrayal as our young heroine, Chaya, tries to evade capture by the cruel General Siri after stealing the King’s Jewel. They are not only reading and analysing the book in guided reading but are also using the narrative as a stimulus for their own writing. In theme we have been learning about and comparing daily weather and the climate in Milton Keynes and different Indian cities spread throughout the country from New Delhi to Chennai and Mumbai. The children are fascinated not only with the time difference and the temperature, but also with the air quality and pollution levels in each location. It has led to some fascinating discussions on migration and restrictions. A very thought-provoking week!
