The Super Scientists of Year 4

Super Scientists in Year 4!

Today, throughout our school, every child has had the opportunity to take part in 4 different experiments ranging from: earthquake damage prevention to milk-based chemistry; from camouflage to the science of colour.

In year 4 our super scientists learnt about the unique characteristics of fingerprints, looking closely at their own and others. They looked at the individual nature of iris recognition and other biometrics. In another classroom, they investigated changing states; they made butter from double cream and tested their product on a slice of warm toast - yum! In another, they created their own gases using time-honoured chemical reactions ocreate carbon dioxide and inflate balloons. Finally, they engaged in the magic milk experiment; they investigated the behaviours of molecules (fat, protein and soap) which change the surface tension and create patterns in the milk.

Many of the children left school today, explaining that they had too much information to share. They have taken in a lot today - hopefully they will keep you entertained during the weekend with scientific tales.
