Habitats Nature Walk

Year 4 have been able to make good use of the excellent weather and the beginning of spring this week.

As part of our Habitats science topic, all four classes have been out and about this week on a hunt to find living things. On Monday afternoon, HB8 braved some very chilly wind and ventured out onto the front field and the hedgerows behind the school to search for anything living. As the week has gone on, the other classes have had more luck with the sunshine. We found lichen on the trees and learned that they are a cross between a fungus and algae. We found worms and also the beginnings of blossom buds on the trees. On our return to class, we drew what we had seen and grouped them into living and non-living things, plants and animals, vertebrates and invertebrates.

We have also spent some of our lessons learning how a classification key works and starting to think about how we would make our own classification key with clear questions to show how living things are different from each other.

It has been wonderful to see so many children in their colourful clothes today to celebrate Red Nose Day. Thank you for all your donations.
