Eating like an evacuee

This week year 6 have had lots of fun making bread pudding by following Mrs Solloway’s aunt’s recipe.

Bread pudding was a common dessert (or ‘afters’) during the Second World War as bread was not rationed until after the war, between 1946 and 1948.  The children worked collaboratively to measure out the rationed ingredients, mix them together and pour them into a baking tin.  It was so lovely to hear the buzz of excitement fill the classrooms.

Once the bread pudding had come out of the oven and cooled, children once again demonstrated team work when wrapping and tying slides of bread pudding into parcels.

Those of you who were lucky enough to try the bread pudding, we hope you enjoyed it.
