Science day delivers bloomin' good time!

Children in year 3 took part in a variety of activities during science day.
In HB1, the children were revisiting previous learning on flowers. They poured food colouring into water and looked at how water and nutrients are transported through the xylem up to the flower, using capillary action. They will be analysing the results on Monday. In HB2, children were learning about how animals can camouflage themselves to avoid being seen by other animals. They enjoyed colour-matching their own creatures so they would blend into the background of the classroom and then had fun trying to find them again! Over in HB3, children had the opportunity to learn about why different objects sink or float. They worked in groups to design their own boats and then tested how much weight they could hold in a big bucket of water. Finally, in HB4 the children experimented with air resistance by making their very own balloon-powered hovercrafts! A fun-packed day for our young scientists.
