Shrink Art and Keeping Safe
Year 6 have been continuing their Maya artwork and this week they have been exploring shrink art!
They first were given their Maya sign (including spirit animal) and number and used this information to complete a piece of artwork. Then they traced their design onto shrink paper and outlined it using black pen. After that, we heated the artwork and it shrank to a very small size - perfect for a Mayan piece of jewellery! The children absolutely loved watching their artwork shrink. Please see the photos for the completed result.
HB13 and HB14 were visited by Amy from Hazard Alley Safety Centre this week for the 'Challenge and Empower' talk. The children discussed a range of issues relating to gender stereotyping and appropriate behaviour between peers. Amy shared different scenarios and the children discussed which behaviour was inappropriate and what to do if they found themselves in a similar situation. She shared the following rules:
-
You have the right to feel safe all of the time
-
Your body belongs to you
-
Speak up if you are concerned
-
Call out your friends
HB15 and HB16 will take part in the same unit next week.
